*Paris Jackson’s legal battle with her late father’s estate is far from over. With a $625,000 court victory already secured, the 28-year-old is now pushing for nearly half a million dollars more in interest she argues the estate still owes, TMZ reports.
Retired probate judge Mitchell Beckloff issued the initial ruling on April 29, finding that compensation paid to third-party attorneys covering the latter half of 2018 had no legal basis for approval. “Ms. Jackson’s objection to the $625,000 of bonus payments made in the second six months of 2018 is sustained,” Beckloff wrote. “The bonus payments are not approved; they are disallowed. The payments shall be returned to the estate.”
Paris’s legal team wasted no time escalating. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, she is now demanding $463,752 in interest that accumulated on the improperly paid amounts. Her rep made the position plain: “The law is crystal clear: when funds are misappropriated, they have to be paid back — with interest. There’s no reason John Branca should get special treatment from our legal system, and that’s why Paris’ team is filing this procedural motion asking for the Executors to cover the costs of their own mistakes.”
Estate executors John Branca and John McClain, who have managed Michael Jackson’s estate since his 2009 death, previously defended the payments as consistent with how the broader music business compensates legal talent, pointing to a particularly lucrative stretch when the estate closed a string of high-profile agreements. Their camp pushed back on the new interest demand, telling TMZ, “The Executors are aware of the filing and are confident it will be rejected in due course.”
Beckloff’s ruling also reshaped how attorney compensation works going forward – bonuses now require either unanimous beneficiary approval or court authorization, and fees are released on a 70/30 split pending judicial sign-off. Notably, the same judge praised the executors for the overall value they have delivered to the estate, even as he ruled against them on the bonus payments.
