Redlands’ LifeHouse Theater will stage original musical ‘Ruth’
The musical, first performed in 2007, retells the biblical story of Ruth.
Redlands’ LifeHouse Theater is bringing back “Ruth,” an original musical retelling of the biblical story of Ruth, running weekends from Feb. 28 through March 29.
Set in ancient Bethlehem, “Ruth” follows a young widow who chooses loyalty over security and faith over fear. Her decision to remain with her mother-in-law Naomi leads her into a romance with Boaz and a place in the family lineage leading to Jesus.
LifeHouse Theater’s “Ruth,” first performed in 2007, was written by Jane Cason, with music and additional lyrics by Dustin Ceithamer. Wayne R. Scott, LifeHouse founder and president, is script and story co-editor.
This year’s production features Sanlyn Carter as Ruth, Jeremy Yeo as Boaz, Sarah Pearce as Naomi, Jonathan Bushey as the Unnamed Servant, Michael Slusser as Elimelech and Chelsea Ramirez as Orpah, according to a news release from the theater.
Also in the cast are Canon Robertson, Joseph Vreeman, Julie Carlson, Bella = Yarbrough, Jacob Bates and Joshua Isom.
Jana Smith directs the production, with choreography by Micah Derry, music direction by Jeremy Yeo and costumes by Mary Lynn Mollner. Scenic design is by Jacob Michel, with sound and lighting design by Josiah Evans.
The play opens 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and continues at 7 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 29. There is one Thursday performance, at 7 p.m. March 26.
Tickets are $33 or $29 for adults and $19 or $17 for children ages 3 to 12, available at lifehousetheater.com and 909-335-3037.
LifeHouse Theater is at 1135 N. Church St., Redlands, with free parking available behind the theater.
