The Saint Lucia Golf Association was one of two national governing bodies admitted to full membership of the Caribbean Golf Association (CGA) at the regional organisation’s annual meeting last week in the Dominican Republic, held alongside the 30th Caribbean Golf Classic.
Bermuda was also admitted to the CGA, bringing membership to 12. Although Guadeloupe and the US Virgin Islands are CGA affiliates, Saint Lucia is the first member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States to join the CGA.
The SLGA previously submitted a formal application. During the AGM, they presented their vision, motivation, and benefits to the Caribbean golfing community. Afterwards, member delegates voted unanimously to approve the application.
“In an effort to continue growing golf in Saint Lucia, we look forward to exposing our golfers to new challenges,” SLGA president Mario Reyes said. “As we join the Caribbean Golf Association as full members, we look forward to participating at every level. This will, in turn, build camaraderie, strengthen friendships, raise the quality of play and provide pathways for our young golfers to access opportunities that were not previously available.”

Benefits for local golf include adding the annual Saint Lucia Golf Open to the regional calendar and official participation in CGA competitions. Founded in 1987, the CGA conducts five annual championships across the Caribbean, providing competitive opportunities for juniors, amateurs and senior golfers while promoting the game’s growth in the region.
“Their inclusion reflects the continued growth and strengthening of golf across the region,” said CGA president Sidney Wolf. “[They] demonstrated clear vision, passion and a commitment to development that aligns with the CGA’s mission. We look forward to their active participation and contribution to elevating Caribbean golf on the global stage.”
