NGOs urged to align projects with Vision 2050

DODOMA: NON-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) have been directed to align their programmes with the implementation of Development Vision 2050 as the government shifts its engagement with the sector from projectbased cooperation to longterm strategic partnerships.

Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, announced the new approach in Dodoma on Tuesday while opening a strategic consultative meeting between her ministry, the National Council of NGOs (NaCoNGO) and representatives of civil society organisations.

“We want to move our relationship from projectbased collaboration to a strategic national partnership focused on building the Tanzania envisioned in Vision 2050,” Dr Gwajima said.

She said the new approach aims to accelerate socio-economic transformation by strengthening collaboration between the government and NGOs to deliver measurable improvements in people’s lives.

Dr Gwajima said NGOs have a critical role in supporting national development through investments in education, healthcare, nutrition, women’s and youth empowerment, protection of vulnerable groups and the use of digital technology to improve service delivery.

She urged organisations to ensure their interventions are aligned with national priorities and deliver tangible results, including higher household incomes, reduced poverty, stronger social cohesion and greater resilience to climate change.

“Development should not be measured by the number of projects implemented but by the positive changes experienced by wananchi. Every intervention must contribute directly to national priorities and improve people’s livelihoods,” she said.

Dr Gwajima added that stronger collaboration between the government, NGOs and development partners would be essential to achieving the ambitious targets set out in Tanzania Development Vision 2050.

NaCoNGO Chairperson Jasper Makalla reaffirmed the commitment of NGOs to supporting government programmes, describing the sector as a key partner in delivering social services and advancing national development.

“As we continue strengthening the operating environment for NGOs, we also strengthen their contribution to national development,” Mr Makalla said.

He said the consultative meeting was part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation, transparency and accountability between the government and the NGO sector.
