San Jose Village woman slapped by partner, then punched and choked by his son

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A San Jose Village woman says a simple remark about a passing vendor brought a double assault down on her inside her own home, slapped by her common-law husband, then punched, choked, and struck from behind by his son, and a doctor has certified her injuries as harm.

According to the Belize Police Department, the 36-year-old domestic worker reported that on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at about midday, she was at home with her daughters, her common-law husband, and his son when a vendor passed by selling. Having no money herself, she asked her husband to check what was on offer.

His response, she reported, came in an upset tone, saying he did not want to see anybody. When she raised her hand in a dismissive motion and said to leave it then, the man approached her, told her she was no one to raise her hand like that, and slapped her twice across the face, causing pain.

The violence then multiplied. His son emerged from his room and threw a punch that missed her arm and struck the door behind her, according to her report. When she told him she can come anytime at the house, he punched her on the mouth and grabbed her tightly by the neck, and she struggled with him until one of her daughters intervened.

She stood and declared she would call for police assistance. As she moved to leave, the son grabbed her by the hand, releasing her only when his father told him to let her go. Even then, she reported, the son followed her as she left and hit her behind the head, causing pain.

Police recorded a statement from the woman, and medico-legal forms were issued and returned, with a doctor certifying her injuries as harm.

The police report does not indicate that anyone has been detained or charged at this time, and the matter awaits further action. The identities of those involved are being withheld.
