Matatias Ndengu, the seventh accused in the case about the killing of Ondangwa prosecutor Justine Shiweda, was denied bail in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
According to a source familiar with the investigation of the case, Ndengu allegedly travelled from Windhoek to Ondangwa with fellow accused Johannes Nghilifavali on 16 October last year.
The pair are alleged to have brought the acid that was later used in a violent attack on Shiweda.
The source further alleged that upon their arrival at Ondangwa, the two men met another accused in the case, Lukas Nekwiyu, before the attack on Shiweda in the morning of 17 October 2026.
Ndengu, who was arrested in Windhoek a week ago, appeared before magistrate Nelao ya France, and chose to represent himself during the court proceedings.
The court denied his bail application and postponed the matter to 22 October to allow the police to continue with their investigations.
He will remain in custody and reappear alongside his co-accused, Johannes Nghilifavali, Lukas Nekwiyu, Petrus Shikwaya, Petrus Uusiku, Abner Mateus and medical doctor Fillemon Nakanduungile.
Ndengu faces six charges, including counts of murder under the doctrine of common purpose, conspiring to commit murder, defeating or obstructing the course of justice under common purpose, and contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
