Sports Club Villa earn first leg victory away at URA | 2025-26 Uganda Cup

Stanbic Uganda 2025-26 (1st Leg – Semi-final)

It is advantage Sports Club Villa coming to the return leg of the semi-finals in the 2025-26 Stanbic Uganda.

This followed a 2-0 victory over Uganda Revenue Authority at the Hamz stadium on Monday night.

On form Najib Yiga and an own goal from Moses Okabo Aliro (own goal) were on target in either half for the tax collectors.

Yiga finished past goalkeeper Chrispas Kusiima from close range after a well laid ball from the left by Hassan Mubiru in a move that also involved Patrick Jonah Kakande, orchestrated by Geoffrey Lubangakene.

Otim who had replaced forward Frank Sebuufu forced Moses Aliro Okabo to poke the ball home past his own goalkeeper for the second goal on the stroke of full time.

URA commenced the game brightly when Joseph Ssemujju forced a save from SC Villa goalkeeper David “Raya” Lukwago off an acute angle as early as the third minute.

The hosts maintained the momentum, earning a free-kick in the 9th minute after Bruno Junior Bunyaga was brought down by Geofrey Lubangakene.

The Jogoos’ goalkeeper Lukwago David Lukwago swiftly recovered from a knock to push on.

URA defender Ronald Otti became the first player on the evening to be cautioned after 19 minutes.

Three minutes later, Patrick Jonah Kakande took on two URA players before he set up Yiga but the latter’s cross flew over.

On 23 minutes, Frank Sebuufu headed over a decent cross from roving right back David “Colgate” Owori.

The Jogoos scored the opener through Yiga’s close range finish past goalie Kusiima after a cut back from Mubiru on the left flank.

The tax collectors called for a first half change two minutes to the half hour mark with Aliro taking over Fred Amaku’s place.

Yiga shot off target from 30 yards and URA’s Bunyaga headed over from a Galiwango curling corner kick.

Isma Mugulusi had a low drive sail wide of the goal frame from 30 yards before he set up Aliro for a cross tamed by goalkeeper Lukwago.

As the first half neared its climax, URA registered a distant shot off target and Bunyaga had a header roll out following a good cross by Aliro in the last piece of the first half.

URA had a brave start with one of their attacks earning them a corner kick moments after restart of play for the final 45 minutes.

 Norman Namanya released Aliro on the right. The latter maintained the forward movement to Mugulusi whose cross was cleared away by Lubangakene.

Yiga was cautioned for a foul on the giant defender Otti on the hour mark.

The Jogoos’ technical team took a precautionary decision to rest Yiga for midfielder Geofrey Gagganga.

Otti had a weak header well picked up by Lukwago off a cross by Aliro before Galiwango tested the goalkeeper with a freekick following a foul on Mugulusi by the edge of the goal area.

With 20 minutes to play; SC Villa made a double change; Ibrahim Kasinde replaced Kakande and Farouk Matovu was introduced for Aslam Ssemakula.

Also URA pushed on the fresh legs of Denis Luzige Kisiriko for  Ssemujju

SC Villa midfielder Diego Missi Ssemugera was booked for a foul on 82 minutes before URA’s forward Bunyaga headed out a Galiwango cross moments later.

The visitors called for a double substitution with Arnold Odongo replacing Hassan Mubiru and Andrew Otim taking over Sebuufu’s place.

In the five minutes of added time, Otim exerted pressure on the URA backline, with a gallant chase that prompted Aliro to score past his own goalkeeper for the Jogoos’ second goal on the night.

At this stage, the game was done and dusted before the referee blew for full time as the Jogoo faithful celebrated wildly.

The return leg will be played on Saturday, 16th May 2026 at the FUFA Kadiba stadium.
