Let’s be real, some luxury coupes try too hard to make a statement. The Mercedes-Benz CLE 450 4MATIC Coupe doesn’t. On the contrary, it embraces understated elegance, turning heads without being flashy. Those who know the timeless prestige of Mercedes-Benz will appreciate its appeal, which doesn’t come across as ostentatious. Mercedes-Benz introduced the CLE lineup in 2024 by combining the best qualities of its former C-Class and E-Class two-door models into one sophisticated package. Judging by my time behind the wheel, it was a smart move.

Finished in “Polar White” with a complementary “Power Red” and black leather interior, my review vehicle looked every bit as luxurious as its nearly $70,000 starting price suggested. The cabin balanced sporty styling with premium craftsmanship while remaining roomy enough to technically accommodate four adults—although just me and wifey felt like a perfect fit. The trunk offered generous cargo space, which stepped up the coupe’s practical approach to accommodate enough baggage for a weekend getaway and then some.
Performance left nothing to be desired. Under the hood sits a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine paired with a mild-hybrid system, producing 375 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. Connected to a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes-Benz’s confidence-inspiring 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, the CLE 450 launches from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. Yet despite its athletic personality, I was impressed with the average of 26 mpg, so those petro station visits thankfully became an afterthought.

My test vehicle also featured the optional Engineering Package with adaptive suspension and rear-axle steering. Whether cruising comfortably on the highway or carving through winding roads, the ride and feel easily switched personalities between relaxed touring and aggressive driving when needed, especially on ATL’s busy highways. The rear-wheel steering also made parking lots and tight turns feel a lot more effortless.
Inside, luxury was exactly what I expected. The Burmester Surround Sound System reached sonic perfection paired with Dolby Atmos audio, while the panoramic roof, heated and ventilated front seats, head-up display, and Mercedes-Benz’s intuitive MBUX infotainment system elevated every excursion, whether running a quick errand around town or heading for Blue Ridge, which I actually did.

On the real, if I had one in my garage, I certainly wouldn’t complain. The CLE 450 successfully blends comfort, refinement, performance and everyday practicality into one nicely bow-wrapped package. That said, driving this coupe left me wanting just one thing: more. I’d love the opportunity to review the even more potent AMG CLE 53 Coupe, which starts at $76,300 and promises an extra punch of performance for enthusiasts like me who crave it. But again, I would be just fine with the CLE 450.
