Police in Mukono are investigating a fatal road crash involving a train and a school bus that occurred early this morning along Katosi Road.
The accident happened at around 6:45am at Namumira–Bukasa village in Kyetume parish, Nakisunga sub-county, when a bus carrying students of Mwebaze High School, Kakiri, was hit by a train while en route to Jinja for an educational trip.
One female passenger died on the spot, while several students sustained injuries in the collision.
Police, working with emergency responders, rushed to the scene and began evacuating the injured to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for treatment.
Authorities have since secured the area as investigations into the cause of the crash get underway.
