Sundowns to face Esperance in CAF Champions League semi-final clash
The Mamelodi Sundowns and Esperance match will kick off at 21h00, on Sunday
The first-leg matches of the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League semi-finals will be played in Morocco and Tunisia, this weekend. South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns will be away to Esperance in Tunis, on Sunday evening.
Betway Premiership defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, are already in Tunisia for their clash against Esperance. The Tunisian outfit are no pushovers and have experience in the continental football competition. They have won the CAF Champions League four times, in 1994, 2011, 2018 and 2019.
But, that would not be a factor, when the Brazilians take to the field on Sunday. Sundowns, who won the competition once in 2016, will also be counting on the experience of their coach, Miguel Cardoso. The Portuguese was poached from Esperance in December 2024, after helping the Tunisians boot Sundowns out of the tournament a season, earlier.
Historically, Esperance hold the upper hand. The two sides have met 10 times, with the team from Tunis winning four times, and Sundowns twice.
The first leg of the Esperance-Sundowns tie will be played, on Sunday the 12th of April, and is scheduled to start at 21h00.
