Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have climbed one spot to 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Tuesday, reaffirming their position as Africa’s leading women’s football side.

The nine-time African champions moved up from 37th place, where they were ranked in the previous standings published in December 2025.

Their slight improvement comes despite limited international action during the review period, having missed one of the FIFA windows considered for the latest rankings.

During the ranking cycle, the Super Falcons were involved in a two-match friendly series against Cameroon in March.

Nigeria suffered defeat in the first encounter but responded strongly in the second game, securing victory to end the series on a positive note.

The latest rankings further underline Nigeria’s dominance on the continent, as the Super Falcons remain comfortably ahead of their closest African challengers.

South Africa are the next highest-ranked African nation in 58th place, trailing Nigeria by more than 20 spots.

Completing the top five women’s teams in Africa are Ghana, Morocco, and Zambia, all of whom continue to make steady progress on the global stage.

On the world scene, Spain remain the number one ranked women’s national team, holding on to top spot ahead of the United States.

England have risen to third place after overtaking Germany, while Japan moved into fifth position after climbing above Sweden, France, and Brazil.

The Super Falcons will now look to build on their improved ranking with stronger performances in upcoming international fixtures as preparations continue for future continental and global competitions.

FIFA has confirmed that the next Women’s World Rankings update will be released on June 16.
