A Directive by the Omusati education director for teachers in the region not to engage in side businesses has brought to the fore an ongoing debate about side hustles in the public service.
While the directive is intended for teachers to avoid burnout and distractions, there appears to be concerns about the current rules.
One teacher notes that their monthly pay cheque is ‘dead on arrival’.
Perhaps this debate would encourage the government to look into progressive regulations that are transparent and still effective in managing conflicts of interest without affecting performances at schools.
