Texas Republican Ripped Over His “Racist” Dig At University of Texas Students
Texas Republicans are condemning Bo French after he posted a photo of Asian University of Texas students and suggested the school had a “problem.”

In a move that can only be considered shocking, a Republican member of Congress condemned a member of his own party for “intolerance and racism” in a social media post about University of Texas students.
According to USA Today, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tx.) called out Republican Texas Railroad Commissioner candidate Bo French after French posted a photo of University of Texas students celebrating the Longhorns’ win over Ohio State.
French posted an image Sunday on X showing a group of apparently South Asian students celebrating in the stands. He wrote, “I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.”
Cornyn responded on X, writing, “This is the Republican nominee for statewide office. Are other Republican elected officials going to condemn the intolerance and racism, or look the other way while it becomes normalized. This is how great political parties self-destruct. Sad.”
French doubled down when responding to another user who criticized his post, saying he cheered for the team but “weep[s] for the families in Texas who can’t get into UT because they prioritize foreigners over Texans.”
That claim is at odds with enrollment data from the University of Texas at Austin. During the 2025-26 school year, Texas residents made up more than 80% of the university’s student population, while international students accounted for less than 10%.
Several other Texas Republicans also condemned French’s post. Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows said, “You can oppose immigration policy without demeaning people because of their race and ethnicity,” and called on French to delete it.
Cornyn, who lost his Republican Senate primary runoff to Trump-backed Ken Paxton in May, has become increasingly critical of members of his own party as his Senate tenure comes to a close.
French is the Republican nominee for Railroad Commissioner, a statewide position that oversees the state’s oil and gas industry. He faces Democratic state Rep. Jon Rosenthal in November.
