Dewayne Perkins is bringing his signature comedic wit to Hulu. The multi-talented co-writer and star of the hit horror-comedy The Blackening is currently developing a brand-new comedy series at the streaming platform, this time focusing on the hilarious, chaotic realities of adulthood.
The untitled project is set to center on a friend group navigating the ups and downs and existential shifts of their 30s.
While specific plot details and casting choices are still under wraps, the series is reported to explore the unique dynamics of modern friendship, adulting, and the everyday absurdities of entering a new decade of life with your chosen family by your side.
Given Perkins’ knack for sharp social commentary, the show is expected to offer a fresh, highly relatable perspective on the “30-something” experience.
Perkins is attached to write, executive produce, and star in the project if it is greenlit by Hulu.
Perkins has been on a phenomenal trajectory over the last few years. He received a lot of attention with the breakout film The Blackening, which started as a viral comedy sketch with his improv group, The New Negroes, before expanding into a critically acclaimed feature film. The movie brilliantly subverted classic horror tropes while celebrating Black culture.
Beyond The Blackening, Perkins lent his writing talents to hit shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Amber Ruffin Show (which earned him an Emmy nomination), and the Saved by the Bell revival.
Hulu has increasingly become a premier destination for smart, character-driven comedies that aren’t afraid to push boundaries, making it the ideal home for Perkins’ latest vision.
