Triple murder suspect Ndodana Tshuma to appear in Johannesburg court

A Zimbabwean man Ndodana Tshuma wanted in the United Kingdom in connection with the murder of his wife and two daughters, is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

International Police Crime Organisation-Interpol and the South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested 45-year-old Tshuma in Kensington on Friday night for the murder of his wife 42-year-old Nothabo Tshuma and daughters, 15-year-old Natalie and five-year-old Nala.

Their bodies were discovered in a house near Bedford in the UK.

South Africa National Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the arrest demonstrates the professionalism and capabilities of the SAPS working with international law enforcement agencies. 

Mathe says, “The swift arrest demonstrates the capability, the professionalism, as well as the operational excellence of the South African Police Service, and the strength of our corporation, with international law enforcement agencies. Let this be a stern warning to criminals across the world – that South Africa is not a hideout for fugitives.“

Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi says South Africa will extradite murder suspect Ndodana Tshuma to the United Kingdom following his arrest in Johannesburg.

Speaking during an update on migration management, Kubayi praised SAPS and Interpol for the swift operation.

She says extradition processes are underway, and South Africa will not become a safe haven for criminals.

Kubayi says, “Once we have received the alert from Interpol, we acted swiftly from a multi-disciplinary team conducting tracing, and the suspect was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg. At the time, he went through OR Tambo, he had not yet been flagged by British authorities. So, if he had been flagged, he would not have entered the country. He will be extradited to the UK once I have signed all the extradition documents and requests as required by the law in my capacity as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development. We are informed that the teams are working quite hard around the clock so that the extradition requests are done and the paperwork is done in time. The IMC welcomes again the continued work on law enforcement agencies under the NET Joints framework.”
