Swag bags are part of the New York Fashion Week experience. If you know, you know.
They show up at runway shows, presentations, dinners, parties and sometimes when you least expect them. Depending on what’s inside, you either want to leave the bag behind because your suitcase is already fighting for its life, or you get home and immediately start digging through it.
The best ones introduce you to a new must-have beauty product, something dope from a designer, a hair product you end up using for months or something you never would have thought to buy for yourself.
ESSENCE Fashion House gave us that kind of swag at its invite-only “A Common Thread” celebration during NYFW on September 13.
ESSENCE Fashion House Brought Black Fashion And Culture Together
HelloBeautiful was in the building alongside Coi Leray, boxing champion Claressa Shields, Papoose, designer Brandon Blackwood and Crystle Stewart. TikTok creators, influencers and fashion insiders also came through for the night.
After days of shows, presentations, interviews, outfit changes and running around New York, the event gave us a chance to wind down and celebrate Black excellence.
The DJ had the music flowing while we mixed, mingled and grabbed passed bites. Fried chicken nuggets and fries came around during the night, followed by a soft chocolate chip cookie.
The cocktail menu played into the “A Common Thread” theme.
Common Thread mixed Canvas Pure Vodka with lavender, lemon and Prosecco. Stitched In Peach combined Canvas Tropical Vodka, Juliette Peach Liqueur and white peach.
Sew Bold featured mezcal, Espelette liqueur, guava, strawberry, kiwi, lime and bitters. Guests skipping alcohol could grab the Muse Mocktail, made with Seedlip Grove 42 and Garden 108, celery, cardamom and lemon.
HelloBeautiful also left the party with one of the gift bags, so naturally we had to see what was inside.

The bag was packed with hair, beauty, fragrance, self-care and even something for the book girlies.
