With Farouk Miya sealing a dramatic return to Vipers SC a decade after his departure to Europe, a familiar debate has resurfaced across Ugandan sports bars and newsrooms: where does the attacking midfielder stand among the all-time greats in the Venoms’ history?

To evaluate Miya’s place in the club’s hierarchy, one must look past mere raw numbers and assess the structural impact he had on St Mary’s Kitende during his initial 2013–2016 stint.

Miya firmly sits in Vipers SC’s top five players of all time, alongside modern titans like Tony Odur, Ceaser Manzoki, Yunus Sentamu, and Halid Lwaliwa.

“Tony Odur and Robert Kimuli (the longest serving captain) come first before Farouk Miya. He spent a relatively short time (one season) at the club, but his tenure with us was colourful, and I can proudly say he is a special player,” he stated.

During the 2014–15 season, he delivered a breakout performance with 11 goals and 7 assists, driving Vipers to their second Uganda Premier League crown as the primary engine of the squad.

Furthermore, his $400,000 move to Belgian powerhouse Standard Liège in 2016 proved that Vipers could act as an elite pathway to European football, raising the global prestige of the club.

Off the pitch, Miya elevated the club’s profile by becoming the undisputed star of the Uganda Cranes, famously netting the historic AFCON-qualifying goal against Comoros in 2016 while still a Kitende-reared talisman.

However, comparing Miya to other club legends reveals why he currently misses out on the undisputed top spot. Players like Tony Odur, Ceasar Okhuti and Milton Karisa have built sustained dominance across multiple stints, delivering big-game goals over many seasons.

Defensive anchor Halid Lwaliwa spent nearly a decade at the heart of the defence, accumulating domestic silverware with remarkable consistency.
