Witonze vetted as minister of state for Internal Affairs

Parliament has vetted Juma Witonze Kisekka as minister-designate of state for Internal Affairs, following his appointment by President Yoweri Museveni earlier this week.

Witonze replaces Lawrence Muganga, who was dropped from the position amid questions surrounding his citizenship status, sparking public debate on eligibility for senior government office.

The appointment comes as part of ongoing changes within the Internal Affairs ministry, a key docket responsible for national security, immigration and internal administration.

Appearing before the parliamentary vetting committee, Witonze said he was aware of the demands of the office and pledged to serve all Ugandans.

“There is a lot of work and a hard task ahead, but I promise that I am a minister for all Ugandans and I will serve,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to President Museveni for entrusting him with the role, noting his long involvement in party mobilisation.

“I cannot thank the President enough. Among millions of Ugandans, he chose me. I am grateful and I promise not to let him down,” Witonze said.

His vetting now paves the way for formal appointment as he takes on responsibilities at a ministry central to the country’s internal security framework.
