Work on the new Redlands City Hall is underway
The $16 million project is expected to be finished by spring 2027.
The city of Redlands is a step closer to moving into its new home on State Street.
Work crews began transforming offices into the new city hall Tuesday, Feb. 17, as the Redlands City Council members and city officials participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at the six-story Citrus Center building at 300 E. State St.
City departments, including the city manager’s office, city attorney, city treasurer and homeless services division, are already based in the State Street building. Additional departments will gradually relocate to the new facility as construction progresses.

The $16 million project is expected to wrap up by spring 2027.
The decision to move city hall from its current location at 35 Cajon St. was approved by the city council in June 2021 in an effort to expand city facilities. The city bought the building for $16 million. It also assisted former tenants, such as Citibank, in relocating from the site to 333 Orange St., at a cost of $1.1 million.
Renovation contracts for the building — the tallest in Redlands — were approved by the council in December.
Renovations on the second through sixth floors are expected to be completed by September. Work on the plaza, such as outdoor dining, seating, and landscaping, should be finished by October, Matt Breyer, a project executive with the Riverside-based Tilden-Coil Constructors said in December.
Exterior painting and window sealing is scheduled to be done by January 2027. The final construction phase will involve work on the first floor, including the council chambers, with a deadline of April 2027.
