Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek have booked their place in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup after playing out a goalless draw against Algeria’s Chabab Belouizdad in the second leg of their semi-final clash on Friday night.
The result was enough to send the Cairo-based side through with a 1-0 aggregate victory, following their narrow win in the first leg in Algiers last week.
Zamalek showed discipline and composure throughout the return fixture, successfully protecting their slim advantage against a determined Belouizdad side that pushed hard for an equaliser.
The White Knights believed they had doubled their aggregate lead in the first half when Palestinian forward Oday Dabbagh found the back of the net.
However, celebrations were cut short after a VAR review ruled the goal out for offside.
Despite the setback, Zamalek remained organised defensively and frustrated the Algerian visitors, who struggled to break down the hosts’ backline.
The Egyptian club will now prepare for another shot at continental glory. Zamalek are two-time winners of the CAF Confederation Cup, having lifted the trophy in 2019 and again in 2024.
They will be aiming for a ninth African title overall when they compete in next month’s two-legged final.
Their opponents will be decided on Sunday when Algeria’s USM Alger face Morocco’s Olympic Safi in the second leg of the other semi-final.
The first meeting between both sides ended in a goalless draw in Algeria, leaving the tie finely balanced heading into the decisive return leg.
