Zambia’s Under-15 girls’ national team head coach, Chisala Chibesa has declared her side ready ahead of their opening fixture against Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the CAF African Schools Championship in Harare.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 12:20 hours at Gateway High School. Speaking during a pre-match press conference, Chibesa expressed confidence in her team’s level of preparation.
“From the time we entered camp, we have prepared them physiologically. We have been talking to them day in and day out. As you can see, the morale in camp is high and there is no intimidation. The girls are geared up for this,” Chisala said.
Chisala added that her side is psychologically prepared and treating the test like any other tournament they have competed in before.
“We are taking it like any other tournament that we have participated in. We went to South Africa for the COSAFA. It was my first time taking the team there, but it was about mindset. Because of that and the standard we set from the time we started training, we managed to win the cup,” She said.
She further warned opponents not to underestimate her team considering their strong track record, including their triumph at the regional level.
Zambia has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Zimbabwe and Morocco. Skipper Rebecca Mbutawo expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness.
“We are more than ready for this competition. The team spirit is high, and we are looking forward to doing our best,” Mbutawo said.
Meanwhile, the team has concluded its training schedule ahead of the tournament opener. The final preparations were marked by a moment of unity, as players and technical staff engaged in praise and worship, singing gospel songs on their way back to their base at Monomotapa Hotel.
