ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial leadership has concluded its conscientisation programme on the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) this weekend amid calls for more support of the proposed law, which among other issues seeks to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office.

The parliamentary public hearings on the proposed bill will commence this Monday to Thursday around the country.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairman Mary Mliswa told the media that the party leadership covered areas from Makande to Mamina in Mhondoro, showcasing the much-awaited bill.

“We have reached all those inaccessible areas in the province. The proposed bill has been received well during the inter-district meetings held last Sunday and as the leadership, we are grateful to our supporters who have taken heed of our calls to support the bill.

“All questions asked by supporters were responded well and this showed our people have understood what the bill means and why it is important to them, as well as what is expected of them,” Mliswa said.

“We are urging our people to come and give their thoughts on the bill when MPs through the bill committees visit them this coming week from Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Mliswa also voiced her concerns over social media attacks against party members, urging their removal from Zanu PF groups.

MP for Muzvezve and also Lands deputy minister Vangelis Haritatos weighed in saying the party had connected with the grassroots support.

“We are in Mamina right now where the leadership of two constituencies met, being Muzvezvi and Mhondoro-Ngezi.

“We are meeting with the grassroots just to educate them on the CAB3. The chairman (Mliswa) was leading the initiative.

“As the leadership, we are happy to hear that the grassroots themselves are completely aligned with all the CAB3 clauses.

“This is great for us as a nation to be united and this is the spirit around CAB3 as this benefits us all as Zimbabwe. It gives us longevity. It aligns a lot of the authority in the powers of the legislative and executive powers with regards to us legislators as we are now going to choose which President to serve us,” Haritatos said.

“We are so grateful for our chairman being here and will wait for Parliament committee for the hearings.”

Many villagers who attended the meeting at Mhondoro’s Ngezi Technical High school told NewZimbabwe.com that they were ready for the public hearings.
