يحتفل الشعب المصرى وجيشه كل عام فى التاسع من مارس بيوم الشهيد، الذى يوافق ذكرى استشهاد الفريق عبدالمنعم رياض، رئيس أركان حرب القوات المسلحة المصرية عام 1969، على الخط الأمامى للدفاعات فى الضفة الغربية لقناة السويس، وبين القوات المصرية وخط بارليف الإسرائيلى، على بعد 200 متر فقط، وهى سابقة لم تحدث من قبل فى التاريخ العسكرى العالمى أن يستشهد رئيس أركان حرب قوات مسلحة على الخط الأمامى للدفاعات.
