Another Muslim man from Bengal pushed into Bangladesh despite voter ID, passport
The authorities had not provided proof of Abdul Barek being an allegedly undocumented Bangladeshi and did not consider his identity documents, his son alleged.

A 43-year-old Muslim fish trader from West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district was picked up by Raiganj Police for being an allegedly undocumented Bangladeshi immigrant and pushed into Bangladesh, his family told Scroll.
The police had detained Abdul Barek, a resident of Gopalpur village, in June.
The family told Scroll that the police had ignored that Barek’s name was on the electoral rolls after the special intensive revision exercise was conducted in the state and had voted in the Assembly elections held in May. The man also has an Indian passport issued in 2021. Scroll has seen the voter list, his voter identity card and a copy of the passport.
The police had arrived at Barek’s home at 3 pm on June 2 and enquired about his identity documents.
“My father was sitting at a shop near our house when a police party came and took him away to Bhatol outpost,” said Jahidul Islam, the 24-year-old son of Barek. “I went with all the documents and he was released after document verification.”
However, Islam said that Barek had been told by the police that he was required to go to the police station if he received summons.
