Australia beat Zimbabwe by one wicket to complete a white wash

AUSTRALIA completed a 3-0 whitewash over Zimbabwe after surviving a final over finish to win the third and final ODI by one wicket at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

The visitors’ victory proved their edge over Zimbabwe who staged their best performance of the ODI ever.

Zimbabwe lost the first ODI by 59 runs, followed by an 84 runs loss in the second match on Friday, before recording Sunday’s one wicket defeat.

Talking of Sunday’s match, the Chevrons looked on course to pick a win after posting a total of 271 for 8 in 50 overs.

The Chevrons were carried on the shoulders of veteran players Craig Ervine and team captain Sikandar Raza who posted 59 and 81 runs respectively.

Other than the experienced duo, Innocent Kaia managed a half century, as he posted 55 runs off 66 balls.

Coming back to the second innings, Australia chased the set set target of 271 in 49.5 overs, thanks to their middle order batsmen Josh Inglis who managed 103 runs.

Other than Inglis, Alex Carey and Nathan Ellis were part of the batters for Australia who had a good day as they posted 34 and 36 runs respectively.

With Australia reduced to nine wickets down, Ellis produced the decisive contribution, as he struck a crucial six in the final over before completing the chase with a boundary-less run from a delivery

Zimbabwe’s defeat marked their first ODI series home defeat this year, having beaten Bangladesh 2-1 in their first series of the year.
