By Zoila Palma: Belize and El Salvador have strengthened their economic and bilateral ties with the signing of a historic Partial Scope Agreement (PSA) on August 13, 2026.
The agreement is expected to provide new market opportunities for Belizean products while supporting greater trade and investment between the two countries.
The signing was accompanied by a Belize Trade Mission to El Salvador, bringing together representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, government officials and other private-sector and trade stakeholders. The initiative forms part of Belize’s efforts to diversify its export markets and strengthen regional economic partnerships.
Minister of State for Foreign Trade Marconi Leal Jr. said the agreement reflects the strong and enduring friendship between Belize and El Salvador while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
He also emphasized the importance of expanding regional partnerships and preparing for emerging challenges in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
Beyond preferential market access, the agreement includes measures to encourage cross-border investment through the establishment of a Bilateral Trade and Investment Promotion Group, as well as provisions for technical cooperation, joint initiatives, capacity building and knowledge sharing.
Minister Leal was accompanied by senior foreign trade officials, including Chief Executive Officer for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Oscar Arnold, Director General for Foreign Trade Andy Sutherland, Ambassador Emile Mena and other government and private-sector representatives.
