By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado’s decision to launch a nationwide police audit has uncovered troubling new details in the investigation into the disappearance of twenty-one thousand dollars connected to the Belize Police Department.
The audit has revealed that the missing cash may never have officially reached the exhibit room at the Queen Street Police Station, despite earlier reports suggesting it vanished from the secure storage facility attached to the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB).
Investigators conducting the review discovered there is no official record showing the money was ever deposited into the vault after it was confiscated during a 2023 criminal investigation. That finding has shifted the focus of the probe back to the Belize City CIB office.
Officials now believe the cash may have disappeared shortly after it was seized, long before it could be logged into the station’s evidence management system.
The discovery has raised serious concerns within the Ministry of Home Affairs about accountability, evidence handling, and possible breaches in police chain-of-custody procedures. Investigators are now trying to determine who last had physical possession of the funds and whether proper protocols were deliberately bypassed.
The audit marks the first major nationwide review ordered by ComPol Rosado since taking office, as part of a wider effort to strengthen oversight and improve internal police procedures.
