A trip to Cape Town gone wrong. A Johannesburg woman recently found herself alone and stranded in the heart of the Cape Town CBD in the dead of night. But in her scariest moment, she wasn’t alone for long.
Cape Town, South Africa (08 May 2026) – A trip to Cape Town with a friend took a terrifying turn for one woman recently, when, to her surprise, she was left stranded and alone.
Roaming the streets of the CBD alone and most likely scared, she was soon found and assisted by members of the Cape Town Central City Improvement District’s (CCID) Safety & Security and Social Development teams. Together, they worked to help the young Gauteng woman who had unexpectedly found herself alone in the dead of night.
“The Social team were alerted to the stricken Johannesburg woman’s plight by CCID Safety & Security night manager Bennie Jacobs last week when he encountered her and realised she needed assistance,” the CCID said.
Herbert November, CCID auxiliary social worker, clarified that the woman had arrived in Cape Town to holiday with a friend but was left stranded and unable to pay the unpaid hotel bill.
“Jacobs contacted our peer field worker night team, who arranged for her to spend the night at The Haven Night Shelter in Napier St. The following morning, the Social day team took over, helped her to get to the airport and stayed in contact with her until she got home safely. This is what we do … work together to ensure the safety, care and dignity for people in need.”
The CCID is a nonprofit organisation that was established by local property owners with a vision for the Cape Town CBD to rise from the “crime and grime” scenario it had fallen into in 2000, to once again become a safe, clean and caring urban environment for all.
Cape Town is more than just beautiful views; it’s a community that looks out for one another. A huge well done to CCID and all involved in helping this woman find her way safely back home. Teamwork really does make the dream work!
