One man, hundreds of kilometres, and a massive heart for the planet. Cetric Mphofela is planning a trek on foot from Pretoria to the Kruger, where he will make pit-stops along the way to educate communities on how to protect and save Mother Earth.
Pretoria, South Africa (09 April 2026) – Littering, illegal dumping, polluted rivers, and damaged roads are the very issues that keep environmental activist Cetric Mphofela going as hard as he does to protect Mother Earth.
Known well by Good Things Guy, Cetric has been actively involved in environmental initiatives since 2021, focusing on educating individuals about the importance of proper waste disposal and participating in painting projects in Pretoria.
This week, he shared with us all about his upcoming environmental awareness undertaking, which may just be his biggest one yet.
“I will be embarking on a long-distance awareness walk from Pretoria to the Kruger National Park (Walk for Mother Earth) on 5 June 2026 on World Environment Day, aimed at educating communities about the dangers of littering, illegal dumping, sewage pollution, and the unnecessary cutting of trees,” he says.

This initiative is part of the Cetric Mphofela Foundation Founder’s ongoing efforts to encourage people to respect and protect the environment.
“It hurts to see how we treat our environment, which is our home. I realised that talking is not enough; I needed to take action. This walk is my way of standing up, creating awareness, and showing people that one person can make a difference. Walking from Pretoria to Kruger National Park is a bold statement to say: we must protect our environment now,” Cetric tells us.
Cetric’s passion for the environment is undeniable, rooted in his childhood experiences where he witnessed firsthand the importance of clean water, fresh air, and healthy surroundings.
“Over time, I became more aware of how human actions are damaging the planet. That is when my passion grew stronger. I believe we have a responsibility to take care of the Earth, not just for ourselves, but for future generations.”
His Walk for Mother Earth will cover approximately 400–450 km, which he expects to take him 18–20 days, depending on daily progress.
“I will be walking during the daytime only and resting at night for safety reasons.”
Along the route, he will pass through several towns and communities, including Pretoria, Bronkhorstspruit, Belfast (eMakhazeni), Dullstroom, Lydenburg (Mashishing), Sabie, Hazyview and surrounding areas leading to Kruger National Park.
In each of these areas, Cetric hopes to engage with local communities, encouraging clean-up actions, recycling, responsible waste disposal and the protection of public spaces and wildlife.
“I hope people will understand that protecting the environment starts with small actions such as not littering, recycling, and respecting public spaces. I want people to realise that we are all responsible. My walk is a message that change is possible if we all stand up and act. If one person can walk this distance for the environment, imagine what we can achieve together. Let us protect Mother Earth before it is too late.”
Cetric will be accompanied by two supporters and is currently raising funds to help cover essential supplies they will need, including branded t-shirts, sneakers, a small tent, food, and accommodation during his walk.
