Police say they expect to lay charges in connection with the death of 4-year-old Rikki Samuel, who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Vieux Fort-Laborie Highway last October.
The crash happened near Hewanorra International Airport and the Marine Base, leaving 11 people injured and resulting in the death of the young boy.
Rikki, who was in kindergarten, was travelling with his father, taxi driver Jonard Samuel, when their vehicle was involved in the collision.
Superintendent of Police Stephen Victorin, who leads the Southern Division, told St Lucia Times that investigators have made progress and are preparing to lay charges.
“The investigation into that matter has advanced because initially, the suggestion was that a gentleman might have suffered some medical difficulty during the collision. [But] that has been dispelled. So the intent is to prefer charges,” Victorin said.
Victorin did not say what charges would be laid but told St Lucia Times that the public will be updated as the case progressed
