The City of Birmingham, along with several community partners, will host its Strong Start Birmingham Back to School Rally presented by Window World on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex, located at 2332 Bessemer Road.
The event will feature a limited number of free haircuts by Birmingham Barber and Style School, a DJ, food trucks, face painting, a game truck, inflatables, Coca-Cola samples, and free school supplies. Partners include Crime Stoppers, the Birmingham Police Department, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services, Church of the Highlands, Coca-Cola United, Rising Star Baptist Church, and the Birmingham CrossPlex.
In addition to the City’s event, several Birmingham City Council districts will host similar activities:
- School Supply Pop-up. Presented by District 3. Featuring bookbags and school supplies while supplies last. This event is for students who attend Epic, Glen Iris and Avondale Elementary schools. Aug. 1 from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Bessie Estell Park.
- 2026 Bookbag Giveaway. Presented by Roosevelt City, East and West Brownsville, and City Council President Wardine Alexander. Featuring free school supplies, a bounce house, free limited haircuts, and free food. Roosevelt City Recreation Center, 5904 Higan Ave. Aug. 1 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Peace on the Block. Presented by Districts 5, 6, and 9. Featuring wellness resources, music, vendors and food, youth activities and family fun, community, and mental health resources. 1200 Tuscaloosa Ave. Aug. 1, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- District Five Health Fair and Back to School Giveaway: The Annual District Five and Omega Psi Phi- Alpha Phi Chapter Health Fair and Back to School Give-A-Way will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Parker High School. Featuring free health screenings, community resources, exercise demonstrations, line dancing, a youth fitness challenge, a blood drive, and food while it lasts.
