Otjiwarongo-based rapper Episode 9 has released a new 14-track album titled ‘Tears of a Loner’, using music to reflect on personal struggles, loss and resilience.
The album, released under Red Empire Gang Records, draws heavily from the artist’s experiences with heartbreak, rumours and other personal challenges.
Episode 9, whose real name is Patrick Kapitango, says the project was born out of a difficult period in his life.
“A lot was happening in my life at once, and music was the only place where I could pour out everything I was feeling,” he says.
Through the album, the rapper explores themes of loneliness, pain and personal reflection, taking listeners through emotional stages that include anger, confusion and acceptance.
According to him, the title ‘Tears of a Loner’ reflects the silent struggles many people face.
One of the album’s most personal tracks, ‘My Life’, features artists Young Blizz22 and Dabutcher.
Episode 9 says the song was inspired by the experiences of a close friend who remained strong for his family after losing his older brother.
The song also connects to the rapper’s own experiences of loss following the death of his brother, Desmond Kapitango.
The artists’ shared conversations about grief and responsibility shaped the message of the track, which focuses on brotherhood and emotional support.
Another song on the album, ‘Mr Sam Nujoma’, pays tribute to Namibia’s founding president, Sam Nujoma.
Episode 9 says the track reflects on Namibia’s liberation history and honours the sacrifices made during the struggle for independence.
“We are where we are today because of sacrifices made in the past,” he says.
Despite growing recognition, the rapper says building a music career in Namibia remains challenging, particularly for independent artists.
“One of my biggest struggles is building everything from the ground up with limited resources,” he says. “Sometimes you have to be the artist, manager, marketer and sponsor at the same time.”
The album features collaborations with several Namibian artists, including Young Blizz22, SmoothQ97, Young Souljah, T.O.O.M.A.R, Vernon Beethoven, Don and Ectic, and Rikz Qpac, with production handled by TeeraxCinco.
