Feel Safe, Feel Welcome: Waterloo’s BFI IMAX Tunnels: night walk on 3rd June 2026

The “Feel Safe, Feel Welcome: Waterloo’s BFI IMAX Tunnels” project is looking at ways to make it easier, safer, and more enjoyable to use the tunnels and the space around Waterloo Roundabout.

This includes the underpass entrances, tunnels, and public spaces below street level around the BFI IMAX.

They’re looking to make this area easier to travel around, with clear signage, creative lighting, and high-quality public spaces, and ties in with plans to turn unused tunnel areas into places to eat, drink, and host events, helping bring more activity and energy to the area at night.

They want want to hear what you have to say about these spaces as they are now, and how they could be improved, and have planned a night walk on Wednesday, 3rd June from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Here’s what to expect:

Would you like to share your experience of lighting and safety, and your ideas to inform the future design of this area? Join us for a group walk with lighting designers Light Follows Behaviour.

This is part of the “Feel Safe, Feel Welcome: Waterloo’s BFI IMAX Tunnels” project. We want to make it easier, safer and more enjoyable to use the BFI IMAX tunnels.

Arrive from 7:30pm at Leon Southbank Place, for refreshments.

Start at 8:00pm with introductions and briefing in front of LEON. We will then set off for a walk as a group through the tunnels and at street level.

The walk will end at around 9:30pm.

This event is open to all, but numbers are limited. Please sign up with your email address. If the event is over-subscribed we may need to contact you to make sure you will use your place.
