Four talking points from Premier League match day 2

For many, the title race is literally over following Vipers’ win over Entebbe UPPC, Calvary still in the race for survival and many more.

Here are the talking points from match day twenty-five as the league nears completion.

KCCA lose ground in title race

KCCA’s seven-year trophy drought could be prolonged after losing ground in the title race following a 1-0 loss away to bottom of the table Calvary in Midigo.

On 51 points, Kasasiro are now seven-points behind table leaders Vipers who they face on Wednesday at Lugogo in a fixture that all but end their title pursuit.

The shocking result left fans irked by the absence of key players including captain Herbert Achai who opted to wed on match day. Crisis at Lugogo? Wednesday will prove.

Vipers pull away to literally end the race

With five matches left to play, Vipers are now seven points clear of chasers Villa, KCCA and Kitara after their 3-0 win over Entebbe UPPC on Sunday.

The result literally ends the title race although mathematically, they can still lose it and Wednesday could seal it if they win at Lugogo.

The onus is now on KCCA to stop the Venoms and re-ignite the title race.

Calvary’s shock KCCA win keeps survival hopes alive

Bottom of the table Calvary was written off by many as a side that will go down.

However, their recent improvement in form means they won’t go down easily especially following their shock 1-0 win over KCCA in Midigo on Saturday.

That meant four matches unbeaten and moved to 13 points, only five behind Mbarara City who occupy 14th position on the log.

For now, there is belief in their camp and coupled with faltering from fellow relegation candidates, they could surely survive.

Controversial refereeing decision sparks outrage in Lugazi loss

“Heartless refereeing, Kasalirwe!” That was a statement from Lugazi President Abdul Kawuulu following his side’s loss to Kitara at Najjembe.

Razak Lucky Kasalirwe

The Lugazi faithful were left to rue a refereeing decision that didn’t go their way.

Kitara defender Henry Musisi appeared to illegally bring down Lugazi forward Alvin Birungi down in the area only for referee Lucky Kasalirwe to wave play on with the game at 1-1 in the 88th minute.

Moments later, in the same sequence of play, their captain Richard Ayiko was sent off for a second bookable offence and two minutes later, Kitara won the game through Muhamad Shaban maiden goal for the club.

This left Lugazi players, coaches, fans and officials including Kawuulu charged but also leaves Fifa referee Kasalirwe in the spotlight.

A few weeks ago, he failed to send off Vipers’ Enock Ssebagala for a second bookable offence for a bad foul on Villa’s Hassan Mubiru and also awarded the Venoms a corner kick that never was and it literally resulted into Villa conceding in that game.

Lugazi, on 13 points in 13th position are just five points off relegation places and if they are to go down, they will have Kasalirwe to blame for lost three points.
