*Filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood brought fans closer to one of the most anticipated fantasy films when she hosted a sneak peek footage event for “Children of Blood and Bone” at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on April 9. Entertainment journalist Nischelle Turner served as moderator for the occasion.
The project is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s “Legacy of Orïsha” trilogy, which includes “Children of Virtue and Vengeance” and “Children of Anguish and Anarchy.” According to Deadline, the series has collectively spent 175 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and sold nearly three million copies globally. Paramount secured the rights to books in 2022 following a competitive bidding process.
Production wrapped last June, with the film set to open in theaters on January 15, 2027 — strategically timed to coincide with the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend. Paramount shared the film’s official logo on social media announcement, which leans into the story’s mystical and otherworldly roots — watch the clip below.

Prince-Bythewood expressed her enthusiasm for bringing the project to life. “I am so honored and excited to bring Tomi’s ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ and the vibrant world of Orisha to life,” she said when the project was announced last year. “Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora. This is where our magic lies.”
Thuso Mbedu leads the cast as Zelie, a young woman on a mission to restore magic that was violently taken from her people by the ruthless King Saran. Her brother Tzain, played by Tosin Cole, joins her on the quest alongside Princess Amari, portrayed by Amandla Stenberg, and Prince Inan, played by Damson Idris.
Rounding out the film’s remarkable ensemble are Viola Davis as Mama Agba, Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea, Idris Elba as Lekan, Lashana Lynch as Jumoke, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran. Check out a selection of photos from the sneak peek footage event below.
