Grammy-Nominated Atlanta Rapper Latto Hosts NYC Pop-Up for New Album, Big Mama

Fresh off maternity leave, Atlanta-based rapper Latto is celebrating a major new milestone. This past May, the artist became a mother with the birth of her first daughter, while simultaneously dropping her highly anticipated fourth studio album, Big Mama.

To promote the 17-track project, which features guest appearances by Doja Cat, Teyana Taylor, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, and Mariah the Scientist and her partner Rapper 21 Savage. Latto has centered her new era on her pregnancy journey and her transition into motherhood.
While she sparked internet frenzy a month ago on X by calling Big Mama her “retirement album”. During a May 29th interview on Apple Music, Latto explained that the project simply marks the final album under her current record label contract, reassuring fans that she is not leaving the music industry.
On May 28th, Latto took to Instagram to announce a three-city Big Mama pop-up tour. The exclusive events kicked off in her hometown of Atlanta on May 29th, followed by a stops in Los Angeles on June 1st, and a final celebration in New York City on June 3rd.

At the Drop House in Union Square, blocks of fans, sporting the pop-up’s designated leopard-print dress code, lined up for hours to buy exclusive merchandise, snap photos, and get autographs from the rapper.

“Big Mama! Big Mama!” the crowd roared as Latto made her grand entrance. While waiting in line, fans were entertained by the official “Big Mama” mascot, who twerked and posed for photos while DJ Von Its ShowTime spun the new album on loop.
During the second hour of the event, Latto stepped outside to film content for social media, rapping into a hanging condenser microphone. The crowd went wild as she performed verses from the new album, posing for photos alongside her fans and the mascot.
Upon returning inside, she continued signing vinyl records and CDs, taking videos with supporters for social media, and sitting down for a brief interview. When asked how she balances her career with newfound motherhood and how it feels to see such a massive turnout, Latto was visibly shy, but happy on the turn out.


“I get so much love out here!” said Latto speaking to The Creative Soul Podcast. “One experience that really stood out was a fan who flew all the way from France. The meet-and-greet didn’t even start until 2 p.m., but fans were lining up at 2 a.m. It makes me feel like, ‘Oh my gosh! they’re doing all this for little old me!” she said.

The fan dedication is reflecting on the charts. As of June 2nd, Big Mama earned the biggest streaming debut of Latto’s career on Spotify. The album also debuted at number two on the Apple Music’s Hip-Hop chart, just behind Drake’s Iceman, and is projected to sell 34,000 units in its first week.
Before exiting the The Drop House to catch a flight, Latto took a few final photos and thanked the crowd for making the pop-up a resounding success. As she departed, fans flooded the streets get more photos of the rapper , who proudly called out, “I love you!” to the cheering crowd.
