Inmate urges Gov’t to recognise ITC as rehabilitation facility for prisoners under parole law
“The issue is about the new Criminal Procedure Act (parole),” he said. “I would like, on behalf of my colleagues, to plead with the government to kindly consider the Insight Training Centre as a rehabilitation facility for prisoners, in conjunction with the presidential pardon for first-time offenders of all categories.” He said the appeal was made on behalf of his colleagues, urging authorities to take into account rehabilitation efforts in decisions relating to parole and pardon. Quoting a proverb, he added: “No matter how a horse runs, one still needs to add more lashes to it.” Darboe also urged his fellow inmates to seriously take the skills and knowledge they have acquired, stating that they should not see their certificates as mere pieces of paper but as life-changing tools. He further encouraged inmates to serve as ambassadors and show communities that the prison service is there to reform and rehabilitate, not to punish or torture inmates.
