International News: Universities in U.S. developing programs aimed at preparing “Influencers” and “Content creators”

By Zoila Palma:  Influencing is emerging as a dream career for a growing number of young Americans, prompting universities to develop programs aimed at preparing students for the booming creator economy.

Arizona State University recently announced a bachelor’s degree in content creation, while Syracuse University is launching an interdisciplinary minor focused on content creation, digital entrepreneurship and online businesses, CNN reports.

The programs come as younger Americans face a changing job market, rising concerns over the cost of higher education and the growing impact of artificial intelligence on traditional white-collar careers.

Goldman Sachs has estimated that the global creator economy could be worth nearly $500 billion by 2027, while ASU’s program will cover areas including brand storytelling and podcasting, with courses such as “How to Become an Influencer.”

Experts say college campuses have become fertile ground for aspiring creators, with students turning their daily lives, talents and interests into online content.

Ryan Schram of Syracuse University’s Center for the Creator Economy said many students are interested in careers in the creator economy, even if they do not necessarily want to be the person in front of the camera. Social media skills and personal branding are also increasingly becoming part of traditional career paths.
