By Breaking Belize News Staff: For the second time in less than two weeks, a young man in his 20s has been killed in Belize City. Twenty-one-year-old Jaheim Sanchez was shot and killed on Wednesday night, September 9, while socializing outside his home in the vicinity of T Street.

The shooting happened at around 10:30 p.m.

According to reports, the suspects, dressed in dark clothing and wearing full-face helmets, arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire into the area where Sanchez and others were gathered. Sanchez was rushed to the hospital, but he had already succumbed to his injuries by the time his family arrived.

Sanchez’s mother, Shanice Ysaguirre, said she last saw her son the day before his death when he visited her home. She recalled him telling her, “Mom, I’m going home. I love you and take care of yourself.” Ysaguirre said Sanchez had recently moved out and was living independently, but would usually visit her for dinner.

She believes her son was not the intended target and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The killing has compounded the grief of the family, who are also mourning the recent death of Sanchez’s cousin, Brianna Myvett, who was killed in a separate incident of gun violence.
