Jub Jub gets bail after urgent public holiday application
Jub Jub was granted bail on Youth Day after he was accused of attacking an Uber driver he believes made a move on his girlfriend.
Jub Jub – real name Molemo Maarohanye – has been released on R5 000 bail after filing an urgent application on Tuesday, 16 June, also known as Youth Day.
The Uyajola 9/9 presenter appeared before the Gauteng High Court on a public holiday after his scheduled appearance at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court was delayed.
The music artist and TV personality is facing charges of kidnapping, defeating the ends of justice and discharging a firearm in public. This relates to his confrontation with an Uber driver whom he accused of having a relationship with his girlfriend.

On Tuesday, 16 June – Youth Day – Jub Jub was granted bail by the Gauteng High Court after filing an urgent application.
He was released on R5 000
The National Prosecuting Authority said in a statement: “In his urgent application, Maarohanye raised concerns regarding the delay in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on 15 June 2026 and sought his release on bail pending his first court appearance.
The matter was postponed to Monday, 22 June, and will proceed at the Germistion Magistrate’s Court as previously ruled.
Urgent applications, such as that of Jub Jub, can be filed on a public holiday under strict, exceptional legal circumstances.
This includes circumstances where irreparable harm may occur if the matter is delayed, the applicant has no alternative relief available, or there is a clear need for court intervention outside of operating hours.
WHAT DID HE DO?
On Sunday, 14 June, Jub Jub was arrested after an altercation with an Uber driver.
Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the incident occurred after the TV personality confronted an e-hailing driver who had dropped off his girlfriend at his Edenvale residence in the early morning.
Jub Jub is accused of forcing the e-hailing driver into his own car and discharging a firearm in his direction.
“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter”, Mathe stated.
The identity of his girlfriend has not been made public.
LEGAL WOES
Jub Jub’s recent arrest comes four years after his ex-girlfriend, Amanda du Pont, accused him of rape and domestic abuse during their relationship..
The actress, speaking in a social media video, claimed the incidents occurred between 2006 and 2010.
Three more women – including journalist Masechaba Ndlovu – also came forward with similar allegations against the musician.
In 2023, Jub Jub handed himself over to police after a warrant of arrest on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault was issued.
A year later, the NPA withdrew all charges against the artist, stating that “there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution”.
In 2010, Jub Jub was arrested after a drag racing incident with a pal that claimed the lives of four schoolchildren.
He was convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison. In 2014, the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the murder convictions and replaced them with culpable homicide. It claimed that there was not enough evidence of intent to kill. As a result, his sentence was reduced to an effective 8 years in prison.
He was released on parole in 2017.
