Kenya Expands Digital Learning Initiative to 10,384 Public Junior Schools

Kenya is expanding the use of digital technology in public schools as the government advances efforts to modernise the country’s education sector and prepare learners for a digital and AI-driven future.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy,  through the ICT Authority , is implementing an initiative that includes the distribution of smartboards and laptops, digitisation of curriculum content and training for teachers.

The programme is being delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The first phase of the initiative has reached 10,384 public Junior Schools across Kenya’s 47 counties, while 62,364 teachers have received training to support the effective integration of technology into classroom learning.

The ICT Authority said teachers remain central to ensuring that technology delivers meaningful improvements in education. It also acknowledged their role in supporting the implementation of the programme.

Facilitation for participating teachers has so far been completed in nine counties, with the remaining facilitation expected to be completed within September.

The initiative is expected to strengthen technology-enabled learning, improve access to digital educational resources and equip learners with skills needed to participate in an increasingly digital and AI-driven economy.
