Kitara returned to winning ways on Saturday after defeating ten-man Lugazi 2-1 in Najjembe. The Royals picked their first win in four games, having lost to drawn to Vipers, lost to KCCA and a goalless draw against Calvary in that sequence.
In Najjembe today, Kitara fought hard to overcome the hosts, thanks to goals from Patrick Henry Kaddu and second half substitute Muhammad Shaban who opened his scoring account with a stoppage-time winner.
Lugazi who had captain Richard Ayiko sent off for a second bookable offence got their goal through Paul Busolo.
Kaddu got Kitara into the lead, a minute after the half hour mark when he rose highest to node home from Gaddafi Wahab’s free kick delivery.
Substitute Busolo levelled matters in the 82nd minute, when he tucked home from close range.
However, Lugazi were reduced to ten men, two minutes before the end of normal time when captain Ayiko received a second yellow card.
Lugazi had claimed a penalty but referee Lucky Kasalirwe waved for play-on and as Kitara surged forward on the break, Ayiko pulled Edson Agondeze to the ground and the referee had no other option but to send him off.
At the stroke of the 90 minutes, Shaban found the winner for Kitara. A long ball from Kato Nemehimana was brushed over by Agondeze, meeting Shaban in the area and he was able to fire the ball into the back of the net.
The win means Kitara return to third place on 51 points, same as KCCA who lost to Calvary. Lugazi on the other hand remain 13th with 20 points.
