Mercy Kongai struck the third century in the history of the Girls’ Cricket Week, leading Light SSS to a comprehensive 185-run win over Kasese SS in a Group B encounter.
The youngster plundered 13 boundaries and two maximums in her knock, which pushed the 2024 winners into top spot in Group B.
St John’s SS Mukono kept their 100% win with two big wins to claim top spot in Group D. Victoria Pearls’ fast bowler Irene Mutoni has traded the ball for bat, and her gusty knocks in the middle have put her school in contention for top spot in Group D. They have a tricky game against Masaka SSS onTuesday morning, a fixture that will decide who will top the group.
Gayaza High School is still chasing an elusive win after going down to Soroti SS, while Ndejje SSS had a mixed day with a win against Good Heart SS in the morning, but they were put in their place by the eight-time winners Jinja SSS.
Jinja SSS looks very determined this year and bundled out Ndejje SSS for just 11 after putting on a big 154/9. Ndejje SSS holds the record for the lowest total in the history of the Girls’ Cricket Week, which is five all out.
Defending Champions Olila High School ran over Rwenzori High School to climb into second, and the game between them and table toppers Masindi SSS will decide the winners of Group A.
The action will continue on Tuesday at six different venues in Gulu City.
