Llona Releases Sophomore Album “On The Road”

Nigerian Afro-fusion artist Llona has officially released his highly anticipated sophomore album, “On The Road,” marking a new chapter in the career of one of the country’s most distinctive emerging voices.

The 12-track project follows the success of Llona’s acclaimed 2024 debut album, “Homeless,” but takes a completely different creative route. Instead of spending the next chapter of his career entirely inside the studio, Llona took his music directly to the people, embarking on a groundbreaking 25-city tour across Nigeria and creating much of the new album while traveling on a bus.

The experiences from that journey became the foundation of “On The Road.” Inspired by the people he encountered, the communities he visited, and the stories and emotions he experienced across Nigeria, the album offers an intimate portrait of the country through Llona’s eyes.

“This tour meant so much to me to connect with people across the country and share music together,” said Llona. “I hope that this album reflects all I learned on the road and my innermost thoughts that others might relate to.”

Across the project, Llona continues to lean into the unapologetic vulnerability and emotional honesty that have become central to his artistry. His songwriting explores themes of love, betrayal, masculinity, ambition, pressure, trauma, gratitude, and the complicated process of understanding who you are while pursuing your dreams.

The album opens with “Monster or Not,” a deeply introspective record that examines the darker realities of Llona’s upbringing and questions whether the pain of his past continues to define him. Elsewhere, “Look At Me,” featuring 4x GRAMMY-nominated Haitian-American artist Fridayy, explores emotional vulnerability and the importance of having someone who genuinely stands by you.

On “Masculine Love,” Llona challenges traditional ideas around masculinity, presenting love and emotional support as sources of strength rather than weakness. “True Colors” deals with betrayal and the painful realization that someone may not be who you believed they were, while “What Do I Do?” captures the complicated emotions that come with achieving success and trying to remain grounded along the way.

The project also features Ghanaian singer and rapper Black Sherif on “Cry”, alongside Nigerian singer and songwriter Morrelo on “Different Pictures.” The collaborations further expand the album’s perspective, bringing together artists whose own music reflects vulnerability, resilience and the realities of navigating life and success.

The release arrives at a significant moment for Llona, following a major cosign from Afrobeats superstar Davido, who featured the artist on his recent album “ORIADÉ” on the track “My Light.”

Speaking to People Magazine, Davido highlighted Llona as an artist deserving of a much wider global audience, saying, “He’s huge in Africa, huge in Nigeria, but a lot of people overseas and over here don’t know him.”

Davido added that he believes Llona is “an artist I feel should be number one in America,” describing him as an artist he was excited for audiences to discover.

For Llona, however, “On The Road” is about more than industry recognition. It represents the lessons gathered through movement, community, and personal experience. His journey across Nigeria allowed him to experience different cultures and perspectives while strengthening his belief in music as a vehicle for connection and healing.

Shaped by the rich culture of Northern Nigeria, Llona has long viewed music as a means of bridging communities and communicating experiences that are often difficult to express. Born Michael Ajuma Attah, the Kogi-native developed his musical ambitions from an early age and has built his career around authenticity, storytelling, and emotional openness.
