Some riddims never fade. They keep rolling through the decades, inspiring new generations while reminding us where reggae came from. Di Real Rock, the latest release from Macka B, does exactly that.

Produced by Firehouse Crew at Anchor Studio in Kingston, Jamaica, the track pays tribute to the mighty Real Rock riddim, one of the most influential rhythms ever created. First recorded by Sound Dimension at Studio One in 1967, the riddim has backed hundreds of recordings and remains a cornerstone of reggae music today.

Macka B approaches it with the respect it deserves. Instead of simply riding the riddim, he takes us through its remarkable history, saluting artists who helped make Real Rock legendary. Names like Willie Williams, Junior Murvin, Buju Banton, Barrington Levy and Beres Hammond all get their recognition as Macka B delivers his trademark blend of knowledge, consciousness and lyrical skill.

“Real Rock is one of the biggest riddims to ever come out of Jamaica,” says Macka B. “When Firehouse Crew called me to voice it, I knew I had to give the people the full history. This is not just a tune, it’s a lesson in where we come from and why the riddim still shakes the foundation today.”

That approach has defined Macka B’s career. Born Christopher MacFarlane in Wolverhampton to Jamaican parents, he has spent more than four decades carrying the torch for reggae and dancehall. Along the way, he’s shared stages with some of the music’s greatest names, including Burning Spear, U-Roy, The Wailers, Lee Perry and Culture.

His reach has only grown in recent years thanks to his popular ‘Medical Mondays’ and ‘Wha Me Eat Wednesdays’ series, where millions have followed his messages about healthy eating and ital living. Like those videos, Di Real Rock is rooted in education, culture and positive upliftment.

The production comes from Firehouse Crew, a band whose contribution to reggae cannot be overstated. Since emerging from King Tubby’s Firehouse studio in the mid-1980s, they have helped shape the sound of modern roots reggae through their work with Philip “Fatis” Burrell and Xterminator Records. Their playing can be heard behind countless recordings by Luciano, Sizzla, Ini Kamoze, Sanchez and many others.

With Di Real Rock, Macka B and Firehouse Crew deliver more than another version of a classic riddim. They celebrate a piece of reggae history while reminding us why Real Rock still hits as hard today as it did nearly sixty years ago.
