Mandisi Dyantyis Symphonic Celebration Tour Brings Orchestral Magic To South Africa

Certain voices carry more than melody. They carry memory, spirituality, grief, joy and history in a single breath. Mandisi Dyantyis has built a career on this kind of depth, earning recognition as one of South Africa’s most expressive musical storytellers. He is now preparing for a major artistic milestone with the announcement of his Symphonic Celebration tour. Presented in collaboration with Real Wired Music, the project signals a shift into a larger orchestral space while keeping his signature emotional intimacy intact.

Symphonic Celebration is designed as more than a concert series. It brings together Dyantyis’ deeply personal songwriting with the scale of full symphonic orchestras. His music will be reinterpreted in a theatrical format that expands its emotional reach while preserving its core meaning. Songs drawn from projects such as Somandla, Cwaka and Intlambululu will be reshaped for orchestral performance, creating layered soundscapes that highlight both voice and instrumentation. The production also includes his regular band and a vocal ensemble, giving each performance a rich and textured musical foundation.

The tour will travel across three major South African cities, each with a distinct orchestral collaboration and venue. It opens in Durban at The Playhouse Opera House on 29 and 30 May 2026 alongside the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. It then moves to Johannesburg for a three night run from 3 to 5 July 2026 at Montecasino Teatro with the Egoli Symphonic Orchestra. The final stop takes place in Cape Town at Artscape Opera House on 22 August 2026 in a one night only performance with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Each city brings a different orchestral identity, shaping the experience in a unique way.

Dyantyis’ rise as a performer and composer has been marked by consistent artistic depth and academic excellence. Born and raised in Gqeberha, he refined his craft at the University of Cape Town where he completed a Masters degree in Jazz Studies with distinction. His work extends beyond music performance into theatre, composition and musical direction. He has toured internationally with the Isango Ensemble Theatre Company and earned a NAACP nomination for Best Musical Director. His projects have also reached wide recognition through albums such as Somandla and Cwaka, which earned awards and critical acclaim across South Africa.

His creative output continues to expand across different art forms and storytelling platforms. He composed the score for Rise, The Siya Kolisi Story and contributed music to the ballet production Nina, By Whatever Means. These projects reflect an artist who works beyond genre boundaries and consistently explores new emotional and cultural territory. Symphonic Celebration builds on this foundation by placing his work inside a large orchestral setting, where the emotional weight of his compositions can grow even further. The result is a production that feels both rooted in his history and open to new artistic expression.

Symphonic Celebration stands as a rare moment in live music performance. It brings together intimate songwriting and large scale orchestral arrangement in a way that highlights the emotional core of Dyantyis’ work. Each performance is designed as a limited experience across some of the country’s most respected venues, making the tour feel significant and time sensitive. With previous orchestral appearances selling out quickly, demand is expected to be high across all three cities. Audiences who want to experience this level of musical storytelling will need to secure tickets early through official Webtickets platforms for each city.
