On July 14 in Nouakchott, Mauritania and the United States of America signed a framework cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration in securing supply chains for critical minerals and rare earth elements, as well as developing the extraction and processing of these resources.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Dy Ould Zeine, Minister of Mines and Industry, and Ms. Corinna Sanders, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Mauritania.
The agreement provides a framework for enhanced cooperation between Mauritania and the United States to advance the critical minerals sector, strengthen the resilience and security of supply chains, encourage investment, and facilitate the exchange of technical expertise. It also aims to support the development of mining and processing activities while maximizing the added value of Mauritania’s mineral resources through a partnership built around shared interests.
The signing marks another step in Mauritania’s efforts to position itself as a competitive destination for investment in strategic minerals and to leverage the growing global demand for critical minerals and rare earth elements, which play a vital role in advanced technologies, renewable energy systems, and the global energy transition.
