Argentina edged a spirited Austria 2-0 in Group J contest of the on-going FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Dalla Stadium on Monday evening.
38-year-old Lionel Andres Messi scored a brace during the momentous duel.
The Argentina captain who lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy four years ago in Qatar set up a new FIFA World Cup goal scoring record, netting his 17th and 18th goals to become the all-time record goal scorer.
Ironically, Messi had missed a penalty in the 8th minute when he struck wide of the goal frame.

Messi once against scored in additional time off the 90 minutes to seal the victory as Argentina secured their second victory at the championship to make it six points with a game to spare against Jordan in the coming days.
