By Zoila Palma: On May 18, 2026, the Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour, alongside the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), launched the inaugural National Stakeholder Consultation for Belize’s first Migration and Development Policy.
CEO Tanya Santos co-chaired the opening session at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Auditorium in Belmopan, uniting senior public officials for engaging discussions.
Priority areas focus on national security, labour and investment migration, and social services integration.
This launch marks the beginning of a week-long series of consultations running from May 15 to 22 across Belmopan, Belize City, Bella Vista, and San Pedro.
The Ministry explained that this process is expected to deliver a consolidated stakeholder report, evidence-based recommendations, and key inputs for the final draft policy, to be presented to the Ministry in late July.
