The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to formalise their existing collaboration on data protection awareness and privacy in Nigeria.
The agreement was signed by NDPC National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Vincent Olatunji and NOA Director-General Lanre Onilu. It establishes a framework for joint initiatives, including capacity building and training for NOA personnel, coordinated public awareness campaigns and the development of an action plan to expand data protection messaging across traditional and digital media.
Olatunji said public awareness remains a key mandate of the NDPC and highlighted the importance of using NOA’s nationwide reach to improve citizens’ understanding of their data protection rights and encourage compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) 2023.
Onilu commended the NDPC for its work in strengthening Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem and reaffirmed the NOA’s commitment to broadening public awareness and supporting compliance with data protection requirements.
The MoU will also provide guidance on the application of the NDP Act to the NOA’s mandate and create a framework for both institutions to collaborate on promoting data protection and privacy awareness across Nigeria.
